Dispite the rumors, I'm still here

Sunday August 23

It has been a long and very hard road thus far but I hope the corner has been turned. PT and OT are brutal, especially when you have no strength or stamina. Today is a day of rest, if that is possible. I know I can use the day off. Yesterday we were able to walk about 80 feet with the walker. I know it doesn't sound like much but for me it was like walking a marathon. To make matters worse, I have lost weight in my body, which makes my stump smaller and my prosthesis now doesn't fit. While my body has lost weight, I have the dubious honor of having collected 46 pounds of fluid in my abdomen. That is the challenges I have in order to get out of here. The fluid is in the lymphatic system. There are ways to get it out but with my heart and kidneys having problems they don't want force the issue and put a bigger strain on both organs.

I want to thank all of you for the cards and prayers. They certainly seem to have helped. If we don't suffer any more set backs, I hope to be out of here sometime next month.

Steve

Sure is great to have Steve feeling like doing the blog.
