He is off the ventilator already

Thursday morning at 9:30am they look him off the ventilator for a spontaneous breathing trial. Respiratory did not expect him to be able to be off the vent very long - BUT he has been off it for 24hours. They actually removed the unit from his room this morning. Last time it took more than a week to wean him off the vent. He tries to talk but can only move his lips. Hand writing is just not readable. Chest drains continue to drain. Only time will tell. Doctors are satisfied with his progress.
