Chylothorax is what the physicians have decided is causing the fluid in Steve's Right lung and abdomen. The pulmonologist explained it to me and then I googled it. The pancreas has agreviated the main lymphatic duct which goes from the upper chest, through the diaphragm into the abdomen. It is leaking lymphatic fluid into the chest and abdomen. It is how do you get it to stop or heal itself that is the challenge. No more food even tube feedings for a while. They will begin feeding him through his PICC line with something called TPN. Fortuantely the chest tubes continue to drain or the fluid would be building back up in his lungs. He remains off the ventilator which is good. He will remain in ICU at least for the next few days. He can still on mouthed words and we have trouble reading his lips. He still does not have good brain - finger coordination so can not read his writing.
